Welcome to the record of our travels during our year-long sabbatical from work, school, and the comforts of home.  We expect that most of you–family and friends from around the world–know us already.  For those who have come here indirectly, we are a family of five from Portland, Oregon who traveled around the world from October 2013 through June 2014.  The seeds of the adventure were planted long ago from travels we (Katherine and Wally) had as children and as adults.  The chance to make the dream a reality came from a convergence of the opportunity for a sabbatical that was not tied to a specific location, and conducive school timing (Mariah-high school graduate, Ian-sophomore, Ella-6th grade).

We traveled without a set itinerary, knowing that our best adventures are unexpected and discovered while on the road.

So, welcome.  We hope you find the entries interesting, informative, or, at least, entertaining!
